Rodrigo Sphaier and Canelle Lebreton triumph in Salinas

Brazil's Rodrigo Sphaier and France's Canelle Lebreton were crowned champions of the opening event of the 2026 European Tour of Longboard (ETL), held in Salinas, Asturias, as part of the Barreltopia Salinas Longboard Festival. The event was organised jointly by the European Surfing Federation (ESF) and the Spanish Surfing Federation (FESurfing).

After four days of competition, Sunday's finals were contested in improved swell conditions, with consistent waves providing an ideal stage for Europe's best longboarders and a strong international field.

Women's Division

The Women's competition switched to the head-to-head format from the quarter-finals onwards, producing several closely contested heats.

England's Emily Currie eliminated newly crowned EuroSUP Surf Junior Girls Champion Julieta Rodríguez-Villamil (ESP), who concluded an outstanding week in Salinas after competing in both the European SUP Surf Championships and the ETL. Australia's Lucy Small advanced after defeating France's Marie Chauché, while France's Canelle Lebreton overcame Portugal's Raquel Bento thanks to two solid scoring waves. The final semi-final saw Maya Glasenapp (FRA) eliminate fellow French rider Margaux Vieuge, completing the line-up for the last four.

Currie's run came to an end in the semi-finals, where Lucy Small produced one of the strongest performances of the day with a two-wave total of 14.40 points. In the second semi-final, Canelle Lebreton defeated Maya Glasenapp to secure her place in the final. The championship decider saw Lebreton maintain her consistency throughout the heat to defeat Small and claim the first ETL Women's win of the 2026 season.

Men's Division

The Men's event delivered high-quality performances throughout Finals Day.

French surfer Teiva Tartas opened the quarter-finals by eliminating Spain's Nicolás García Andrade, continuing the impressive form he had shown throughout the event. One of the standout heats featured newly crowned Spanish Longboard Champion Jon Garmendia against Brazil's Rodrigo Sphaier, the 2015 ISA World Champion. Sphaier advanced after a high-level performance to continue his march towards the final. Ireland's Tom Breen also booked his place in the semi-finals after defeating France's Max Jamet.

The semi-finals saw Sphaier once again overcome Teiva Tartas with an excellent display of classic longboarding, while Portugal's Frederico Carrilho edged past Tom Breen in a closely fought encounter. The final between Rodrigo Sphaier and Frederico Carrilho proved to be a fitting conclusion to the opening ETL event. With the lead changing hands throughout the heat, Sphaier delivered an exceptional final ride featuring flowing rail turns, a hang five and a hang ten, earning the event's only perfect 10-point ride and securing victory in Salinas.

Pro Junior Divisions

Spain's Martín García Andrade claimed the Pro Junior Boys title after a dominant final performance. Improving with each wave, García Andrade posted scores of 6.50, 8.25 and 9.65, receiving a standing ovation from the Salinas crowd after securing the victory.

The Pro Junior Girls final produced one of the closest heats of the day. France's Margaux Vieuge secured victory in the closing minutes with an excellent ride worth 8.75 points, overtaking Spain's Julieta Rodríguez-Villamil, who finished runner-up after another impressive performance.

ETL Opens the 2026 Season in Style

The opening stop of the 2026 European Tour of Longboard brought together riders from across Europe and beyond, confirming the continued growth and competitiveness of the circuit.

The European Surfing Federation would like to thank the Spanish Surfing Federation, the Asturian Surfing Federation, and the Barreltopia Salinas Longboard Festival for their outstanding collaboration in delivering a successful opening event.

The tour now moves to Los Realejos (Tenerife, Canary Islands), where the second stop of the 2026 European Tour of Longboard will take place from 15–17 October.
