The European Surfing Federation (ESF) welcomed another successful chapter of the 2026 European SUP League season as athletes from across Europe gathered in Richterswil, Switzerland, for The Big Paddle Festival on 20 and 21 June.
Set on the shores of Lake Zurich, the event combined high-level racing with a strong community atmosphere, bringing together elite athletes, youth competitors, masters paddlers and recreational participants in a celebration of Stand Up Paddleboarding.
The European SUP League competition featured both Technical Race and Long Distance disciplines, delivering exciting battles across the rankings and demonstrating the depth of talent currently emerging throughout Europe.
Spanish athlete Aarón Sánchez was the standout performer of the weekend, securing victories in both the Technical Race and Long Distance events. His double win strengthens his position within the 2026 European SUP League standings and confirms his excellent form as the season progresses.

The women's competition once again highlighted the strength and competitiveness of the European field. Alba Frey claimed victory in the Technical Race, while Duna Gordillo returned to winning form in the Long Distance race. Hungary's Kocsis Csillag Virág completed the podium positions across both disciplines, underlining the international character of the event.

Beyond the elite competition, The Big Paddle Festival provided valuable opportunities for athletes across all age groups and categories, reinforcing the European Surfing Federation's commitment to athlete development and participation pathways. Strong performances were recorded throughout the U18, Masters and youth divisions, showcasing the next generation of European SUP talent.

The event also demonstrated the importance of collaboration between organisers, national federations and local communities in promoting paddle sports across Europe. Through initiatives aimed at participation, education and community engagement, The Big Paddle Festival continues to play an important role in the growth of the sport.
Following successful stops in Spain, Italy and Switzerland, the European SUP League now continues its journey towards the next event of the 2026 season, with athletes continuing to collect valuable points in the race for the overall rankings.
