The European Surfing Federation (ESF), represented by Jean-Luc Arassus, took part in a meeting in Dakar bringing together key figures from the international surfing community ahead of the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games.
The meeting highlighted the commitment of the French Surfing Federation (FFSurf) to the development of surfing and the strengthening of cooperation with the African continent. The FFSurf was represented by its president, Jacques Lajcunomme, who also serves as president of the AFCNO, and its vice-president, Nadia Ghali.
The participants were welcomed by Oumar Seye, President of the Senegalese Surfing Federation, and Alexandre Alcantara, President of the Francophone Surfing Union. The gathering also provided an opportunity to exchange views with Robert Fasulo, representative of the International Surfing Association (ISA), and professional surfer Michel Bourez.
A partnership built on development and solidarity
The Franco-Senegalese partnership, established in 2021, stands as a concrete example of international cooperation between surfing federations. Its initiatives focus on training instructors, coaches and judges, supporting young athletes and promoting the development of women’s surfing.
The discussions also featured the presentation of NORA, an educational tool designed to promote gender equality in sport, reinforcing the importance of inclusion and equal opportunities within the surfing community.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to meet Christy Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), further highlighting the importance of collaboration between the surfing community and the wider Olympic movement.
Building the future of surfing across borders
Through its presence in Dakar, the European Surfing Federation reaffirms its commitment to strengthening relationships between European, African and international federations.
This initiative, led by the French Surfing Federation and its partners, underlines the importance of sharing expertise, fostering solidarity and developing joint projects to support the continued growth of surfing worldwide.
Together, national, continental and international federations are contributing to shaping the future of surfing, transcending borders and creating new opportunities for the next generation.
