The updated Qualification System for Surfing at the LA28 Olympic Games marks an important step forward for our sport in Europe and globally.
The European Surfing Federation welcomes a framework that is fair, globally equitable and structured to provide meaningful opportunity for National Federations across all continents.
By expanding the potential maximum quota per nation from two to three athletes, the system strengthens pathways for both established and emerging surfing nations. This evolution empowers smaller and developing federations to qualify their elite talent while preserving the highest competitive standards at the Olympics.
Crucially, the process has been shaped through consultation with key stakeholders - including athletes - ensuring their voice and federation perspectives helped inform the final structure.
As surfing continues its Olympic journey under the leadership of @isasurfing, this updated system provides clarity, opportunity and integrity for nations and athletes alike.
We look forward to supporting European federations and surfers on the qualification pathway toward Los Angeles 2028.
